Can I buy medication without Medical Aid?

What is generic medicine?
Generic medicines contain the same active ingredient, have the same dosage strength, is safe and equally effective as the original medicine. Therefore it is interchangeable with an original brand name product.
What is acute medicine?
It is medicine used to treat non-chronic conditions which means it is mostly for short-term use.
What is chronic medication?
It is medicine used to treat long-term (chronic) and/or recurring conditions.
How long is a prescription valid for?
A prescription is valid for 6 months from the date on the prescription, unless the medicine prescribed contains a controlled drug. The date on the prescription can be: the date it was signed by the health professional who issued it.
